Everyone has that moment or even in their life where they remember exactly where they were or what they were doing when it happened. I have a tofu moment like that. I know, having a memorable life moment that is related to vegan food is weird. I’m weird, what can I say?
I was at my sisters house and she was making an asian dish and it smelled amazing. I hadn’t gone vegan yet by I knew she cooked mostly plant based recipes. Flash forward 20 minutes later and we are at the table eating the most amazing Asian dish I had ever tried. I mean it was just incredible.
I looked at my sister and asked her how did she get the pork so tender. She just busted out laughing and said “I processed it with some plants.” I was very confused but she did eventually tell me it was tofu. Later on that evening she showed me the package it came in so I would know what she was talking about.
I do have another tofu story about my first try at cooking it. But I will save it for another time. It didn’t end well, I can tell you that. This recipe is one you can get right no matter your level of experience. This tofu is great over rice but it would go equally well with other delicious vegan items.
This tofu is perfectly marinated, fried to perfection, and seasoned to be just the right amount of spicy. The black pepper sauce is a bit tangy from the vinegar, warm from the pepper, and sweet from the maple syrup. Once you get it all together it is quite amazing.
