Vegan Crispy Chipotle Fritters

Let’s be honest, these tasty fritters are not health food. They are for parties or outdoor gatherings or football Sundays. So eat them in moderation. But eat them! I use this awesome recipe below from

Ingredient List

  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 1 cup split red lentils, picked through for stones and rinsed
  • ½ medium onion, chopped (about ⅓ cup chopped onion)
  • 8-10 sprigs chives, finely chopped (about 3 tbsp chopped chives)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • Oil for frying
  • ¼ cup vegan mayo
  • ¼ tsp chipotle powder

Soak red lentils in water for an hour.

Process red lentils, onions, chives, salt and pepper into a food processor until smooth. Don’t worry if it seems a little bit watery.

Preheat oil to 375F.

Use a spoon to drop batter balls into the oil.

Fry unti golden brown. (don’t fry too many at the same time!)

Remove and let drain on paper towel.

Mix mayo and chipotle together to make sauce.

Serve and enjoy!

    I made these, they were absolutely dee-lish and the Chipotle mayo really set them off. Will defo make them again 🙂

  2. Fritter is actually just a word for “fried.” “Fritta” is the Italian word for fried. Some restaurants have dishes called shrimp (or chicken or lasagna or artichoke or whatever) fritters (or fritta) and it just means that item was fried 🙂
