Vegan Holiday “Meat Free” Meat Buying Guide Review

We are continuing our series on preparing for the upcoming holidays. We hope this vegan holiday meat buying guide and review will help. For vegans and vegetarians it can be difficult navigating the expectations of friends and family during this time. I have known vegans who say they don't care. They tell their friends and family we don't eat animal products and we don't eat with other people who eat them. So you can come to our vegan holiday meal or we won't see you.

For most of us that is an extreme position to take. Especially when there are so many vegan and vegetarian options for holiday roasts, turkey and ham. In fact there are some new products that we didn't have just this time last year and I'm excited to try them. I love that vegan companies are starting to do well and focusing on giving even more variety and better products each year.

So what meat free ‘meat' should you use as the centerpiece for your Thanksgiving or Christmas meal? We hope to help you with that. This is a simple evaluation of several meat free roasts, turkeys and hams for the Holidays. They are generally made by three different companies and we will give you a run down based on the company and their line of products. We will start with Field Roast on the next page. They actually have something new this year and we can't wait to try it

This company is always trying to stay on the cutting edge with their ‘meats' and ‘cheeses'. They have many offerings for the Holidays including something new this year so we will start with that.

Smoke Foragers Roast

Field Roast describes this product as a traditional bread and wild rice stuffing wrapped in a rich smokey tomato grain meat seasoned with our own special blend of spices. It comes with a pineapple mustard glaze.

INGREDIENTS:
Filtered water, vital wheat gluten, organic unbleached wheat flour,
expeller pressed safflower oil, tomato paste, naturally flavored yeast extract, red wine (red wine, salt), garlic, wild rice, barley malt, chanterelle mushrooms, butternut squash, organic expeller pressed palm

Described on their website as a Delightfully seasoned with rubbed sage, garlic and lemon juice, this evolution of our classic Celebration Roast 2 lb features a traditional bread stuffing made with fresh onions, celery, cranberries and butternut squash. As a special accompaniment to the roast, we offer you the perfect portion of our Porcini Mushroom Gravy. Simmered on the stovetop, the gravy combines the dark, rich, earthy flavor of porcini mushrooms with diced shiitakes to create the ultimate vegan gravy. A centerpiece, appetizer or sliced in a sandwich; our new Celebration Roast is still perfect for any occasion.

It's described on their website as A vegetarian roast that holds a lot of flavor! Rich, hazelnut-infused grain meat stuffed with Field Roast sausages, crystallized ginger, cranberries and apples – wrapped in a savory puff pastry.

INGREDIENTS
Filtered water, vital wheat gluten, expeller pressed safflower oil, cranberries, crystallized ginger (ginger, cane sugar), toasted hazelnuts, yeast extract, barley malt, whole wheat flour, nonsulphured dried apples, granulated garlic, onion powder, yellow pea flour, organic ginger juice (organic ginger, citric acid), toasted sesame oil, lemon juice, sea salt, spices, carrageenan (Irish moss sea vegetable extract), red wine (red wine, salt), tomato paste, black pepper,

Described on their website as a rich and savory sausage-style stuffing made from Field Roast grain meat, fresh cut butternut squash, mushrooms and granny smith apples seasoned with a blend of rosemary, thyme and sage. We then surround the stuffing with our most luxuriant grain meat seasoned with rubbed sage, garlic and lemon juice.

Ingredients:
Filtered water, vital wheat gluten, expeller pressed safflower oil, naturally flavored yeast extract, barley malt, whole wheat flour, granulated garlic, butternut squash, organic wheat flakes, onion powder,  apples, garlic, mushrooms, yellow pea flour, lentils, lemon juice, irish moss (sea vegetable) extract, sea salt, tomato paste, red wine, black pepper, rubbed sage,spices, rosemary, paprika, natural liquid smoke and carrots.
